Golfing in Ireland: The Most Complete Guide for Adventurous Golfers

Useful resource in planning a golf trip to Ireland
I found this book to be a very useful resource in planning my golf vacation to Ireland. He covers courses by county - my one criticism of the book is that there is no map to help you plan your itinerary. I had to buy a more general guidebook for Ireland with a map to plan our itinerary. Other than that, Rob Armstrong is very familiar with Ireland and the golf courses covered. His descriptions of the courses are thorough and enticing. I like the fact that he covers all of the major/well known courses, but many lesser known, excellent courses that you wouldn't ordinarily hear about. This book is well worth investing in.

Excellent book--slightly quirky
Very personal acoount of the author's favorite Irish golf courses. I bought the book to help plan my Irish golf vacation. Just about everything he said about the courses, I agreed with. He rants about shabby treatment towards Americans & women at some courses that we did not experience. Some of the phone numbers are now out of date and the book could really use a map of Ireland with the location of the golf courses. Excellent reference book, but not the bible of Irish golf.

Keep the Last Bullet for Yourself

A surprising Thesis about LITTLE BIG HORN "Massacre" !
Thomas B. MARQUIS had given Us a Biography of "Wooden Legs: A Warrior Who Fought Custer". This time, he presents Us a deep analysis of CUSTER's & RENO's mistakes on the Little Big Horn Battlefield... to throw it. But, he goes further and tries to explain the defeat... And so, we learn that the 7th Cavalry Troops were (very) Young (also see Douglas D. SCOTT, P. WILLEY and Melissa A. CONNOR's "They Died with Custer: Soldiers'Bones from the Battle of the Little Bighorn"), inexperienced and were soo influenced by the fear to be tortured by Indians warriors when captured, they prefered kill themself. MARQUIS' thesis sets on a serious investigation and, its demonstration is soo that if we are troubled, we may not reject it without carefullness. This book is a document very usefull to everybody tries to understand the defeat. To read... with the usual openmind, but to read urgently.

Keep the last bullet for yourself
Good insight into the historical and strategic problems facing the American Indians regarding their weapons as well as problems the army faced. Mr. Marquis' conclusion that Custer's enemy was his own men's lack of experience and training, thus leading to the only way out for them is insightful and interesting.

Momma's Life Lessons

Momma's Life Lessons
The author has put into words the thoughts and lessons that many of us have learned but never seem to get the chance to organize, express, and write down. This book makes me think about my own lessons learned and how do I share them with my loved ones and others seeking to improve themselves. It was good to read a book that was easy reading yet at the same time makes you contemplate life and what's it all about.

Momma's Life Lessons
At the beginning of this book I asked "Why Momma's life lessons?" and "What are they like" now I know. The author loves God with all her heart and takes the Word of God seriously. Let me encourage you to read and reread the sections in this book wholeheartly because it is very powerful; you will be able to grow, learn and teach your child or someone else's child the foundation that we must stand on as parents in today's society. Many times we are aware of these things ,but need reminding. Don't underestimate your child. The natural dependency and openness of a child is so precious. He or she is a blessing from God, so teach them Momma's life lessons...

Knock Your Socks Off
Wow. This book is a trip through the stangest places. Starts off like an intriguing detective novel, and then halfway through takes a left turn into horror, truly great horror.

The story is character driven for sure. In fact, I can't get the cast of characters out of my head. I feel I've known these cats all my life. Most are lovable, but some are evil to the bone. Once I got to the part where my favorite character, Sandy Rivet, dives to the bottom of one of the coldest, deepest lakes in the world, I couldn't put it down. This is a jetliner of a read that will keep you up all night. Promise!

Great Characters In A Unique, Unpredictable Storyline
J. F. Armstrong continues the "Secret Detective" series with "Sub$ect". Set in a small upstate New York town, the believable but unique characters try to find the furnishings of a lovable "nut-job" who's just been released from the loony bin. The story keeps chipping at the "big picture" -- a conspiracy of some of the vilest, richest people on the planet, but as in "The Asexuals", there's a very readable assortment of quirky folks who either help Sandy, Deepray and Jimmy -- or get in the way! And of course, sometimes the people who get in the way actually provide the best clues!

You'll get to go to a rave in the woods with whacked-out "Goths", take a death-defying dive in Seneca Lake (one of the deepest in the world!) and figure out just how STRANGE people with too much money and too much time on their hands can get. I know it's a cliche, but I really do find it hard to put down -- plus the cover rocks!

There Came a Stranger
Published in Hardcover by Forge (June, 2001)
Author: Andrew J. Fenady
Average review score:

Good post-Civil War read.
Adam Dawson saw more than his share of action riding with Custer's unit in the Civil War. Now that the fighting and killing are over, he wants nothing more than to drift peacefully toward the West. His journey through Texas lands him in the path of Chad Walker, a man who lost his ability to care about anything as a result of the same war. Chad takes Adam under his wing, giving him a job at the ranch. Unfortunately, trouble follows the man who still wears the red neckerchief of Custer's soldiers. There Came a Stranger is an interesting read for the history buff and the non-history buff alike. His straightforward, unembellished writing style starkly portrays a fictional account of life in post war America. His characters' actions are well defined even through the difficult challenges they face. Their angst is palpable; the bleakness of the landscape and of life comes alive. Elsie Moyer

wow, another hit
just a great book from fenady again. i've been a fan for years and stranger really hits the mark. if you haven't read his other books you should. nice, quick, fun, easy reading. something light and entertaining for a sunday afternoon. highly recommended.

This book is awesome
I first read this book several years ago, and every so often I have to pick it back up and read it again...it's that good! I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants science fiction that they can't figure out the ending of in the first five pages. Can't wait for the proposed sequel.

Agents of Darkness
Published in Paperback by Harper Mass Market Paperbacks (December, 1991)
Author: Campbell Armstrong
Average review score:

An intelligent thriller ridden with intrigue
Agents Of Darkness is the type of novel designed to hold the reader curious and involved page after page. Well-written and surprisingly world-conscious, the espionage-oriented book takes the reader from the Far East to California and on to Pennsylvania where the book's finale takes place.

Main character Galloway is instantly believable and his predicament alarmingly real. He is down, but not out and beckons the reader to feel for him as he battles himself, his life and a nemesis given birth by his country.

With a surprisingly unfair ending, Agents Of Darkness may disappoint some. Having said that, the book lives up to its path of bloodshed and evil.

Awakening Genius in the Classroom
Published in Paperback by Association for Supervision & Curriculum Development (01 July, 1998)
Author: Thomas Armstrong
Average review score:

Inspirational and Eye-Opening
Thomas Armstrong asserts in his book, "Awakenking Genius in the Classroom," that every child is a "genius." He uses the term "genius" to mean "giving birth to ones joy" rather than the common use of the word (somenone with an exceptionally high IQ). Dr. Armstrong seeks to open educator's eyes to the possibilities and potentials that lie within each child. Although his book can be redundant in parts, he does manage to validate all children as special and to give teachers a new framework with which to view their students. I found the book to be informative and inspirational. It reaffirms why most of us began teaching - to ignite the spark within children which will help them to develop a lifelong love of learning.

Between Earth and Sky (Guardians of the North/Alan B. Morris, 4)
Published in Paperback by Bethany House (May, 1998)
Author: Alan B. Morris
Average review score:

Between Earth and Sky delivers on the suspense!
Between Earth and Sky sees the characters of Guardians of the North face the destructive path of General Custer and the Seventh Calvary as he ventures close to the Canadian frontier in the Dakota Territory. Will Custer's presence bring a destructive Indian war between the Sioux and the Cheyenne, or will the North West Mounted Police be able to keep the peace in this hostile territory? Reena receives a telegram from her injured uncle who has been serving as a scout to General Custer, requesting her help in nursing him back to health. Taking her very life into her own hands in order to reach her Uncle, Reena embarks on the voyage across the hostile lands with Hunter Stone, Del Dekko, and missionary Jack Sheffield as her excort. As a battle seems to be looming on the frontier, Jack seeks out Chief Crazy Horse in an attempt to talk reason and smother the building fury of the Indians. Will they remain safe in General Custer's army, or will they venture through hostile Indian territory in order to make their way back home? Will God protect these honorable people, or will they see destruction before the novel ends? A suspenseful novel based on the tensions between the Indian nations and with the pioneers encroaching on the home of the Indian people.

Bicycle Camping
Published in Hardcover by Doubleday (June, 1977)
Author: Diana. Armstrong
Average review score:

A Classic for the Bicycle Tourist
Now more than twenty years old, this book still contains a lot of solid information on the subject of bicycle touring and camping. Given the overall no-nonsense approach to the topic, what stands out is how the book inspires confidence for hitting the open road on a solo journey of discovery. It is organized simply with a couple hundred words dedicated to numerous sub-topics under the headings of preparation, the touring bicycle, clothing, riding technique, life on the road, eating, camping, and repairs. The challenges and potential problems are described and dealt with in straightforward fashion. Some of the technical information is dated, omitting modern triple cranks, cleated pedals, and indexed shifting, but I wasn't bothered so much as impressed by the overall tone of common sense and enjoyment. Worthy of special praise are the numerous black and white photos depicting the simple joys of cycling along quiet country roads, camping, and exploring small town America. A quality book.
